Detailed Bhutan Tour Package Itinerary

Day 1 Arrive Paro – Thimphu

After arrival at Paro International Airport, you will find our tour representative who will escort you and drive you to Thimphu. Thimphu is around 55 km away from Paro, and it is the capital of Bhutan. Along the way, you will stop at Chuzom, a religious site for sightseeing. Chuzom holds numerous stupas and it is the place where River Thimphu and River Paro join. Right before Chuzom, you will be drive through Tachogang Lhakhang - the temple of excellent horse. This temple was built due to the visitation of Balaha. You will reach Thimphu by late morning and you will be taken to a hotel and checked into your room. You will be left to rest for a while and enjoy refreshments. Later, you will be taken on an afternoon sightseeing tour to the fortress Tashichho Dzong. This is a large monastery, which was once the official seat of the government of Bhutan. This structure is also important for being the summer residence of Chief Abbot. The structure holds the throne room, secretariat building, and others. By evening, you will go for market walking tour covering main street and market regions of Thimphu. You will also visit the local crafts bazaar to buy souvenirs, if you wish. Top souvenirs to buy here are masks, Thangka painting, slate articles, ceramics, wooden articles, handwoven textile, and others. Overnight stay in Thimphu hotel.

Day 2 Thimphu – Punakha

After enjoying breakfast, you will be taken on a road trip to Kuensel Phodrang aka Buddha Point. This site holds the largest Buddha statue of Bhutan. Also, from Buddha Point, one can enjoy a panoramic view of the valley. Next, you will be driven to King’s Memorial Chorten. This place is of pilgrimage importance and you can see pilgrims circumambulating and spinning prayer wheels. You can hear chorus chanting of prayers. Next, you will visit the Changangkha Lhakhang, Temple fortress also a monastery school. This temple is famous for holding Chenrezig statue which has eleven heads. From the fortress, you can enjoy a grand view of the Thimphu Valley. Later, you will be taken to textile museum, where you can find a large collection of traditional Bhutanese textile. This collection sheds light on the culture and heritage of the land. After lunch, you will be taken on a road trip to Punakha along Dochu La Pass. You will spot many attractions like chorten, prayer flags, and mani wall. The pass has more than 108 stupas, which were built by Ashi Dorji Wangmo Wangchu. This structure has 45 chortens in the first level, 36 chortens in the second level and the last level holds 27 chortens. The main chorten of the structure is located in the middle level. In the evening, you will explore Wangdue Town, which is the latest developed region of the country and the last town before you hit the Central Bhutan. You will be taken to Punakha hotel for overnight stay.

Day 3 Punakha – Paro

After breakfast, you will be taken to the Punakha Dzong, the Palace of Great Happiness. This is the spot where Phochu River and Mochu River join. Next, you will be taken to the temple of fertility, Chimi Lhakhang. This temple is located on top of a small hillock. It is believed that this temple has the power to grant children to the couples who pray in the temple. Next, you will be taken on a walking tour around the Pana Village closer to the hillock for exploring the rice fields and local lifestyle. Next, you will be taken on a road trip from Punakha to Paro. The trip takes four hours and during the trip, you will drive along Douchu La Pass, Paro Town, Paro Chuhu River Valley, Wang Chhu River Valley and others. You will halt at Simtokha Dzong before reaching Paro. Simtokha Dzong is a palace, where tantric school is conducted. Once you reach Paro, you will be checked into a hotel. By evening, you will be taken on a walk tour through the city center of Paro to enjoy the culture of the land. Paro is the destination of museums, ancient temples, deep gorges, and many other attractions. Overnight stay in Paro Hotel.

Day 4 Paro Sightseeing

After breakfast, you will visit Taktsang Monastery on a road trip. Taktsang Monastery is also called the Tiger’s Nest Monastery, which is located along the sides of a cliff, 900m above the base of the valley. This road trip and the walking trail leading to the monastery take five hours. By afternoon, you will be taken to Ta Dzong, a watchtower which is a museum of art and artifacts. The museum holds a large collection of historic artifacts, paintings, weapons, textiles, and others. Next, you will be taken to Paro Dzong or Rinpung Dzong. This is also called as the fortress of heap of jewels. This structure is famous for its rich history and beautiful architecture.

Day 5 Paro (Departure)

After breakfast, you will be checked out of the hotel. This is the end of the 5 Days Bhutan itinerary. Your tour representative will escort you to the airport to catch your flight.
